Autumn 2020 | Special Publication
We are delighted to see the KOHTEI Art Pavilion featured in the Autumn 2020 issue of CREA Traveller. As a publication renowned for its focus on sophisticated travel and curated cultural experiences, CREA Traveller offers a beautiful perspective on the intersection of architecture, art, and the spirit of Zen.
The article explores the pavilion at the Shinshoji Zen Museum and Gardens, emphasizing its unique ship-like form and the traditional kokera-buki (Japanese cypress shingle) roofing that gives the structure its ethereal, floating appearance.
For us, KOHTEI is more than a building; it is a meditative vessel. Designed as a collaboration between contemporary artist Kohei Nawa and SANDWICH, the project reflects our studio's commitment to creating environments that engage the senses and invite introspection. From the darkness of the interior installation to the meticulous craftsmanship of the exterior, every detail is a "distilled version" of Zen philosophy.
